Interview with Susannah Brooks

Five years ago, in 2010, we finished creating ACROSS A DISTANCE, which is possibly my most uncategorizable piece.  It’s a full-length work of music theatre for two actors, one of whom is an operatic soprano, while the other is a Deaf actor who speaks exclusively in ASL.  The show equally balances operatic vocal performance and ASL performance, and the book by Nick Lantz is an amazing parable of sorts, about communication and art and life and so much more.  Just before the show was mounted for the first time, Susannah Brooks wrote the show up for the University of Wisconsin-Madison News, and this insightful interview was the result:
